Kai's first day of camp

Kai practicing his Kung Fu moves just before heading to his first week of summer camp.
We had a nice little routine for the first two weeks of summer: swim lessons at 10 followed by a few hours playing in the pool. Nina would nap while Kai and I played games. But then we'd suffer a bit in the afternoon - too hot to do ANYTHING outside, tough to manage two kids who want my undivided attention playing in the house, nothing to do except go shopping - yuck! - here on the northshore when it's too hot to be outside, and not enough energy to get the kids rounded up in their suits again. So Kai got a bit bored. He started to get bored with food. His carseat. Our games.
I'm sure we would have figured out a new routine, but he was thrilled to start summer camp and hasn't looked back since. This is week one of three. Nina asks, "When I get bigger, can I go to camp?" And that's enough for now; she's perfectly content to be home with me painting, cuddling, playing doctor, playing doctor, playing doctor, playing doctor...
Kai's reports are short, but his smiles say it all. I know he swims a lot there, goes down the water slide, went to the Saints training camp on tuesday, made new friends. And Nina and I have our own routine, naps for this tired mama have replaced games with Kai. Some nights we return to swim, last night it was nice enough for Nate to take the kids outside to play with our little neighbor, Caleb, for awhile.
And today Nina I head to nola to see Sara, Matt and Tibo, who have been in Europe for two weeks. Felt like a lot longer. I'll get my bagel and cream cheese fix there too. And maybe a chocolate croissant too.
