Nina: "Mom, is Meecie really the moon?"
Mom: "Well Nina, I like to think that she's up there watching us."
Nina: "Because it's always followin' us!"
Kai: "Meecie is higher than the moon, she's in heaven. Do you know what I think heaven is? I think it's a castle made of clouds."
Tonight after Kai got out of the bathtub I looked into his eyes and just melted. Thought of mom and how much she just adored this child. And I told him how much I wish Meecie could hug him now, how much she misses his face. And he nodded his head, closed his eyes and gave me a bear hug.

Nina-ism
(tearing off her pajamas just before bed)
"I don't wanna wear these! They're too scratchy!"
(me) "Nina, every time we put on these pajamas you take them off because they're too scratchy. Should we get rid of them?"
(Nins) "Yeah! Give them to someone who likes itchy things!"

last sunday
What a picture perfect day it was. Played outside for hours. Warmed up the hottub for the kids. Nate took Kai and Nina swimming at Franco's - it's January! Nina eating apples and peanut butter and rocking out to kidz bop. Julian mouthing every moldy, dirty thing in the yard.
more critters
Something is stampeding at night...in our walls or on our roof, we can't tell. There's a hole on the wall of our garage that the pest control guy thinks was created by a raccoon.
So he set out a trap. Within hours we had trapped a fat orange cat, probably the one that peed on our door and on a bunch of things in our pool house. He set it free in the morning, and by 6 PM that night we found this disgusting creature. Note the drool, the teeth, the tail. Quite a large 'possum.
And in the midst of this found mouse pool in Kai and Nina's room. Upon further investigation found that a rodent has chewed through the wall in their closet.
Oh Louisiana. Oh old house.

Jungle boy
Another rainy day. I never left the house and didn't shower until 11:30 PM.
Tibo and matt had stayed overnight saturday. Kai, Julian and I went to Panera before the rest of the household woke up and brought back their favorite breakfast: chocolate chip muffies and mango smoothies. Went to the park before the rain set in. Somehow the day passed fairly quietly and peacefully.
So here we are in the afternoon.
Julian loves listening to Nate play guitar. He did NOT like being stuck in the exersaucer he's pretty much outgrown, but as you see the backyard was a mud pit. Jungle boy was in heaven. Nina was content to stay out of the mud and inside the house with playdoh.
Nina's haircut and a dance party
Nina's hair is just precious. Here we are in Julian's room rocking out to kidz bop on a rainy day. My kids love to dance. Who doesn't?!

happy first birthday, julian
I can't believe that I don't have any pictures of Julian eating his birthday cake - chocolate cake, vanilla frosting, adorned with raspberries, Kai's design - because those pictures were on my phone and now they're gone. Sigh.
But here is our celebration with Aunt Sara, a day after his birthday. Sara's bday is just 2 days before jujubee's. Matt was here too, and Grandpa Fud.

Ate a buttermilk pancake for breakfast and just took a sippy cup to the fridge trying to get water.
Pulled a cup full of milk off of the table and it spilled everywhere.
Pulled a wineglass off the table last week and the glass shattered.
Can eat meatballs and an entire banana and an entire piece of toast...even had his first popsicle the other day...but still can't figure out how to drink from any number of different sippy cups.
