nina's turn

Nina's birthday party was small and sweet and precious. Just three kids from her school, a little sister of a girl in Kai's class, and Tibo. We brought a few toys out to the living room, and that was about enough to entertain the 3-year-olds. We played pin the nose on the pumpkin, musical chairs, ate cheese, crackers, fruit salad and cupcakes - which were beautiful but tasteless. Kids didn't mind. Nina was so excited, and so precious. Tibo and Sara stayed overnight the night before, which was almost as exciting to the kids as the party.

Kai is taking karate

This is going to be such a great experience for Kai. He is so excited, and so motivated. All this talk about eye contact and respect and self-control and self-discipline and integrity and goal setting - Kai is absorbing it all. I've never seen such a look of concentration on his face. Nate, Nina and I alternated between laughing and crying last night watching his first class - little Kai, among the youngest of a dozen students, all at different levels and all trying their best. Nina can't wait to join in. Kai thinks Nate should as well!

No pictures of the class, but here she is all dressed up and ready to go. She absolutely loved it.

Happy birthday to Kai...again

We had a great time at Kai's 6th bday party on saturday. Nate worked his butt off in our yard, and I worked my (big, pregnant) butt off in the house, shifting unpacked boxes and piles to the spare bedroom. We ate hot dogs and burgers, pasta and fruit salad, and technocolor lego cake for dessert.
The smile never left Kai's face. The pool was unfortunately a bit chilly, but the kids entertained themselves with our crafty outdoor twister game and running around the house and yard. Nate and I had fun socializing with the parents - it's a really good group. And to have my sister and nephew here was priceless. I was wondering why I wasn't nervous getting ready for the party, then I realized it was because I knew she'd be here.
It's Nina's turn in a few weeks.
